Advanced Practice Provider APRN or PA

Rice Community Healthcare seeks a full time Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) at Rice County District Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Lyons, Kansas to join our team and play an integral role in providing excellent care to our patients. JOB SUMMARY:

APRN / PA working in the Emergency Room (ER) holds a crucial role in delivering comprehensive care to patients in urgent and critical situations. APRN / PA is responsible for performing triage, stabilizing patients with traumatic injuries, ordering diagnostic tests, and coordinating care with other medical staff.

APRN / PA works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This is a full-time position consisting of: two – 10 hour day shifts and two – 14 hour night shifts a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Patient Assessment and Triage:

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, vital signs, and physical examinations.
  • Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition and provide immediate interventions.

2. Diagnosis and Treatment:

  • Formulate differential diagnoses based on assessment findings and diagnostic tests.
  • Initiate and manage treatment plans, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, administering medications, and performing procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with physicians and specialists for consultations and referrals.

3. Emergency Care Management:

  • Provide emergency interventions such as CPR, wound care, airway management, and other life-saving measures.
  • Monitor and manage patients in critical conditions, ensuring appropriate interventions are taken promptly.

5. Hospital Care Management:

  • Admit and manage hospitalized patients.
  • Assist with care of skilled swing bed patients.

6. Patient Education and Support:

  • Educate patients and families on their conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Offer emotional support and counseling during critical situations.

7. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Report patient status and collaborate with the healthcare team for continuity of care.

8. Quality Improvement and Compliance:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance ER processes and patient outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.

9. Administrative:

  • Participate in committee work
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current and unrestricted APRN or PA license
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an Emergency Room or ICU setting preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications,
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in high-stress environments and manage multiple priorities
