Sterling Medical Center, an affiliate of Rice Community Healthcare, is excited to announce its recent approval as a federally funded Kansas Vaccines for Children (VFC) provider, reinforcing the clinic’s dedication to enhancing community health by expanding access to crucial immunization services for children.
By obtaining VFC approval, Sterling Medical Center can now offer all recommended vaccines at no cost to eligible children, ensuring that all families, regardless of financial circumstances, have access to essential vaccinations.
A child is eligible for the VFC Program if he or she is younger than 19 years of age and is one of the following:
- Medicaid-eligible: A child who is eligible for (or enrolled in) the Medicaid program
- Uninsured: A child who has no health insurance coverage
- Underinsured: A child who has private health insurance, but the coverage does not include vaccines, or a child whose insurance caps vaccine coverage at a certain amount
- American Indian or Alaska Native: A child who is of American Indian or Alaska Native decent
Teresa Ellis, Clinic Director at Sterling Medical Center, expressed enthusiasm for the VFC approval, stating, “Becoming a VFC-approved provider is a significant milestone for Sterling Medical Center. It reflects our unwavering commitment to public health and our dedication to ensuring that every child in our community has access to life-saving vaccines.
In addition to broadening its services, Sterling Medical Center is actively working to raise awareness about the importance of childhood vaccinations and the accessibility of these services through the VFC program. The clinic aims to collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and healthcare partners throughout Rice County.
As Sterling Medical Center moves forward as a Kansas VFC-approved provider, it looks forward to contributing even more substantially to the well-being of the community it serves.
