Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Technician

Location:  Lyons, Kansas

Hospital District No.1 of Rice County, located in Lyons, KS, is seeking a Full Time EMR Tech for their expanding Health Information Management Department.

Candidate is required to pass a background check, a pre-employment physical, and a drug screen. HIPAA compliance is mandatory for all employees of the healthcare system.

Job Summary:

Complies, scans, processes and maintains medical records consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. Utilizes electronic health record system for daily duties, Works with scanning, computer and copy equipment. Releases medical information, as appropriate. Processes patient admission and discharge documents. Answers phones, responds to written and verbal requests.

Area’s of Responsibility:

  • Provides excellent customer service to all HIM customers
  • Functions as a contributing member of the HIM and Hospital team environment.
  • Prepare Medical Records for scanning
  • Scan Medical Records into the Hospital’s EMR system
  • Analyze records for deficiencies
  • Assign deficiencies to the appropriate Provider or Nursing for completion of the Legal Health Record
  • Maintains deficiency log
  • Complete physician late letters and physician signature letters to ensure compliance with Medical Staff Rules and Regulations
  • Completes Birth Certificates in compliance with KDHE requirements
  • Completes correspondence and records for release of information in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws, state regulations and hospital policy to respond for patient information
  • Meets productivity and accuracy requirements consistently per HIM policy
  • Serves as the main point of contact for incoming calls into the HIM department
  • Serves as back up to Transcription
  • Attends all Department and Hospital meetings unless excused in advance
  • Perform(s) other duties as assigned
  • Follows all Department and Hospital Administrative policies and procedures

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED equivalent, and training in the medical field to include medical terminology
  • Preferred: Associates Degree or equivalent from a 2 year college preferably in Health Information Management
  • Previous Medical/Hospital Office experience, preferred

Skills:

  • Electronic Health Record Experience
  • Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing
  • Managing files and records, other office procedures
  • Must be proficient in keyboarding skills
  • Must possess the ability to learn software utilized on a daily basis
  • Ability to interact with customers in a friendly and efficient manner

Licensure/Certification:

  • Preferred Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or eligible to sit and successfully pass the above mentioned professional credential within a reasonable time after hire.

Physical Working Conditions:

  • Sitting, reaching, walking, lifting 10-15 pounds occasionally
