The Rice County District Hospital Diabetes Education Program was created because our staff understands that a diabetes diagnosis can be frightening and overwhelming. This program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association since 2004 for its high standard of care and education. Mary Konen, RN, Diabetes Educator, teams with on-site Registered Dietitian, Ellen Garden to ensure accurate instruction and to provide valuable tools to manage diabetes on a daily basis. The individual sessions and group classes cover topics that include: blood glucose monitoring, meal planning, and medication management.

“We work with each patient to help them cope with the disease and achieve a sense of normalcy so that they can enjoy life.”

– Mary Konen, RN, Diabetes Educator

If you, or a loved one, have been diagnosed with diabetes, take the first step to managing the disease; ask your physician for a referral.
