Why meet with a dietitianA Registered Dietitian is one of the team members that help with treatment and prevention of disease using medical nutrition therapy; this improves quality of life and lowers health costs. A patient should meet with a Registered Dietitian to improve their overall eating habits, alter weight for gain or loss, and improve abnormal lab values by instruction on proper diet for the specific nutrition reasons. A dietitian is the nutrition expert who has factual knowledge on the proper things to eat.
Our registered dietitian is certified in Weight Management for Adults, Adolescents and Children. She also maintains education requirements to stay current for treatment of Heart Disease and Diabetes. Individual meal plans can be developed for the treatment of Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Elevated Lipid Levels, Kidney Disease, Dialysis, Overweight, Underweight, Eating Disorders and food allergies.
What is the difference between meeting with a dietician and a nutritionistThe “RD” credentials are a legally protected title that can only be used by practitioners who are authorized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. Some RD’s call themselves nutritionists but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians. In Kansas anyone can call themselves a nutritionist regardless of education or training. RD’s must fulfill the education requirements and must at least have a Bachelor of Science degree or higher and successfully pass a registration examination and maintain certification.
